Breast uplift, also known as breast mastopexy, is popular with women whose breasts have become droopy and saggy due to the natural ageing process, the effects of childbirth, breastfeeding and weight loss. Many women find their nipples start to point downwards and they are unhappy with the general appearance of their breasts. It can make women feel uncomfortable and self conscious in certain situations and when wearing certain clothes.
The breast uplift is a popular procedure as it restores firmness and breasts become more pert giving them a more youthful shape and appearance without affecting the size of the breasts. Choosing to have a breast uplift can really boost women's confidence and self esteem. It is also common to also have a small implant inserted at the same time as the uplift as this can give the breasts more volume resulting in a better shape and size.
The breast uplift procedure is performed under a general anesthetic and can take between 1 and 2 hours to perform depending on how much skin and tissue need to be removed. Breast uplift surgery involves removing sections of skin from underneath the breast and in most cases the nipples will need to be repositioned so they are in the correct place and fit with the new uplifted breast. Usually three incisions are made for this procedure, one around the areola, one vertically down from the nipple to under the breast and one around the natural crease under the breast.
You will need an overnight stay in hospital and may need up to 2 weeks off work. A support bra will also need to be worn for six weeks day and night to assist with healing and to support the breasts. You are usually required to have a one and two week check up with a nurse and a six week check up with your surgeon.
