Nipple Correction

What is Nipple Correction?

Nipple correction surgery is a popular procedure for women who have either inverted nipples or enlarged inflated nipples or areola (also known as Protuberant Areola). It is common and many women will suffer from these irregular nipple conditions. It can seriously affect the way women feel about their breasts as well as causing breast feeding issues.

The Benefits of Nipple Correction

Inverted Nipples

People who have inverted nipples are often born that way however some may invert after childbirth and breastfeeding due to scar tissue in the milk ducts. Having nipple correction surgery can restore the nipple to its natural shape and appearance.

Nipple Reduction

Nipple reduction is used to reshape nipples or reduce the size of the areola. Women chose to have the nipple reduction procedure as their nipples can be very obvious in tight fitting tops or dresses and may cause some embarrassment.

The Nipple Correction Procedure

What Does Nipple Correction Involve?

Nipple correction surgery, when performed as a standalone procedure, is generally performed under a local anesthetic. It can also be performed at the same time as other breast surgery which may mean a general anesthetic is needed. For nipple reduction surgery the surgeon will remove a section of the areola thus reducing the size. With the inverted nipple procedure each individual surgeon may have his or her own way of correcting this. One common method is to release the ligament inverting the nipple and stitches are used to hold the nipple in place. The procedure takes about 30 minutes to complete.

After the Nipple Correction Procedure

After the procedure the nipples will need to be protected or covered for a week. You will need to return for a one week check up with a nurse.
