Brow Lift & Forehead Lift

What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift, also known as a fore head lift, removes any sagging skin on the forehead and can help raise the upper eyelids and eyebrows. As we age, skin can lose its elasticity and lines can appear as a result of over active muscle movement. Other factors can affect this such as excess sun exposure, weight fluctuations and smoking.

The Benefits of Having a Brow Lift

The brow lift procedure can rejuvenate your face by tightening the skin reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. It can also change your expression and give the skin a smoother more youthful appearance.

The Brow Lift Procedure

What Does the Brow Lift Procedure Involve?

The brow lift procedure is performed under a general anesthetic and depending on the technique can take between one and three hours to perform.

Classic Brow Lift

The classic brow lift procedure is when the surgeon uses one continues incision from ear to ear along the hairline so the scar will not be visible. The forehead is lifted and any excess tissue or muscle is removed and the skin is moved up into a tighter position.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

The endoscopic brow lift involves the surgeon making several incisions in the scalp that are roughly an inch long. An endoscope, a small camera attached to a tube which is connected to a television, is inserted through each incision which enables the surgeon to see the muscles and tissue under the skin. Any excess tissue or muscle is removed and the skin is pulled into a tighter position.

With both these techniques the incision will be closed using removable stitches or staples and a bandage may be needed. The incisions are closed horizontally to add additional lift to the brow.

After the Brow Lift Procedure

You will need an overnight stay in hospital but this will be decided by the consultant or surgeon before the procedure takes place. Any stitches will need to be removed seven to ten days after the procedure and bandages will be removed up to three days after. After the procedure the area will be bruised and swollen which will last up to two weeks and swelling may occur in the cheek and eye area too. A week to two weeks off work is required to recover and it is advised to keep your head elevated. You can apply an ice pack to help reduce the bruising and swelling and make up can be applied after the first week to cover any remaining bruises.
