Cheek Implants & Cheek Augmentation

What is a Cheek Implant?

Cheek implants are used to balance the face and make the cheeks look fuller and higher. Implants add shape and proportion which helps improve the appearance of a flat or gaunt face giving it more definition.

The Benefits of Having Cheek Implants

It is a popular procedure with both men and women who desire more definition to their cheeks and for anyone who has experienced facial injuries and requires cheek reconstruction. The implants are made from silicone or tissue from another part of your body can be used. Like breast implants, cheek implants can be made in various sizes.

The Cheek Implant Procedure

What Does the Cheek Implant Procedure Involve?

Cheek implant surgery is carried out under a general anaesthetic and usually takes one and a half hours to perform. The surgeon will make an incision either beneath the lower eyelash or inside your mouth and make a pocket for the implants to be placed. The implant is then inserted where it is held in place by the cheek muscles however sometimes stitches or surgical screws may be needed. Cheek implants are often performed in conjunction with other facial cosmetic surgery such as a facelift or eyelid surgery. The incision will be closed usually with dissolvable stitches. When this occurs the implants may be inserted through the incisions made for those procedures. This procedure can often be performed as day surgery however if it in conjunction with other procedures you will need an overnight stay.

After the cheek implant procedure

After surgery the area will be swollen and may be bruised. This will go down after a week to two weeks and you may have to wear a supportive brace whilst you sleep for the first two weeks to help the implant heal in the correct position. You may need a week to ten days off work depending on the nature of your job. It is important to understand that it may take up to three months before the final face shape becomes clear.
